Balerno Music Festival Family Event - Learn to Play the Taiko Drums

Taiko drumming - "Wadaiko" - is an energetic, physical and highly choreographed art form. Originally from Japan, with roots going back hundreds of years and encompassing a variety of styles, rhythms and movement, this traditional folk art is now developing and spreading as a modern European art form.

We are excited to be invited back to the Balerno Music Festival to do 2 workshops. Now is the chance for people here in Scotland to experience this exciting discipline which is energetic & fun & learnt alongside other taiko enthusiasts!

Times: 2.00 - 3.00pm & 3.15 - 4.15pm

Suitable for anyone who hasn't played Taiko or any kind of percussion before, the workshop will take you step by step through the basics, from the stance to the bachi drumstick grip, to fundamental rhythms, to using "ki energy" whilst playing.
