Founding member, trained in Fukui Japan with Masaaki Kurumaya Sensei from 1992 to 1994, during which time he also studied the philosophy & way of thinking behind the art of Wadaiko with the legendary player & teacher of Hokuriku, greatly influencing him & giving him the inspiration to start Europe's only professional taiko group.

Previously a kit drummer with various groups in hometown Bristol and later in London, Mackie is a powerful & expressive Odaiko big drum player, the Jiuchi base rhythm "comandante", and also the visionary & driving force of the group. His determination & passion has driven him forward, leading by example on stage, where he never gives less than 100% at any time.
