Taiko Course at the Mugen Taiko Dojo

After a long break, we are delighted to be re-starting our beginners courses at the Mugen Taiko Dojo, held on Monday nights with a choice of course time: either 6pm - 7:30pm OR 8pm - 9:30pm. The first course will be 7 weeks long, leading up to Christmas, learning the piece "Donburi Daiko".

Taiko drumming combines rhythm, movement & energy. It's lots of fun to play, is good for physical & mental health, and helps develop coordination & internal rhythm. The beginners courser is suitable for adults of all ages & abilities, and covers the basics of taiko from the stance & grip, through to learning a full taiko piece.

The instructors of the workshops are members of Mugenkyo Taiko Drummers, a professional touring taiko group, internationally renowned for their energetic & theatrical modern style based on traditional Japanese drumming. Their performance history includes 1,000s of concerts at prestigious venues throughout the UK, including in Scotland: Edinburgh Usher Hall, Glasgow Kings Theatre, Dundee Caird Hall, Aberdeen Music Hall, Motherwell Concert Hall, Ayr Gaiety, Kilmarnock Palace Theatre. They have been featured on various film, TV and recording projects & this year they were filmed for the upcoming blockbuster "Tin Soldier" in Greece alongside Jamie Foxx & Robert DeNiro, performed a 2-week run at the World Expo in Dubai, and last year were featured on the BBC TV Tokyo Olympics programme for the opening big drum sequence. In 2002 they opened the UK's first Taiko Drumming Centre, the Mugen Taiko Dojo, as a rehearsal space for the professional group, and as a base for delivering hundreds of workshops of all levels & outreach throughout the UK.
