Katsuji Kondo
Katsuji Kondo, formerly the frontman of Kodo and a legendary taiko player in Japan, travelled to Scotland for two performances with us in Edinburgh & Glasgow in April 2006. We were honoured to have the chance to work with him during his 30th year of playing Taiko, and audiences were treated to a rare appearance of this master, with a virtuoso performance on the Shamisen three-stringed lute, as well as on the taiko drums. As a bonus he also brought with him Mio Shoji, the high priestess of a Shinto shrine in Kyushu dedicated to taiko drumming, who also performed with him. A rare treat indeed!
