Taiko Course in Edinburgh
Fed up with being stuck at home? Looking for safe group activity, which is good for mental health and physical wellbeing? Look no further! Our next "Covid-secure" Taiko Course starts on Monday 26th October in central Edinburgh in the large & spacious St. John's Church.
Face-masks are mandatory, drums spaced at 2m and with sanitised drumsticks. Do join us and experience the uplifting energy of Taiko Drumming!
Taiko drumming - "Wadaiko" - is an energetic, physical and
highly choreographed art form. Originally from Japan, with roots
going back hundreds of years and encompassing a variety of styles,
rhythms and movement, this traditional folk art is now developing
and spreading as a modern European art form.
The Edinburgh course is on Mondays 6:30 - 8:00 pm for
8 weeks starting 2nd November and ending 21st December 2020.
This course is designed to be suitable for both beginners & improvers, and will take the participants step by step from the stance, to the bachi drumstick grip through to learning a performance piece. The piece for this season is Buchiawase, which is an energetic traditional piece from Kanagawa Prefecture, with lots of movement. It is one of the most well-known taiko rhythms and an excellent introduction to the artform of Wadaiko.
If you have previous experience in taiko, you may be
interested in our "Taiko Night" group, which meets at 7:45-10pm on
Mondays at the same venue.
