Taiko drumming - "Wadaiko" - is an energetic, physical and highly choreographed art form. Originally from Japan, with roots going back hundreds of years and encompassing a variety of styles, rhythms and movement, this traditional folk art is now developing and spreading as a modern European art form.

Now is the chance for people here in Scotland to experience a full course of this exciting discipline which is energetic & fun & learnt alongside other taiko enthusiasts!

The Mugen Taiko Dojo course is on Tuesday 7:00 - 8:30 pm.

Starting Tuesday 26th Sept, 3 Oct, 10 Oct, 24 Oct, 28 Nov, 5 Dec, 12 Dec, 19 Dec.

There is a gap in the course dates in November as the instructor will be away on tour with Mugenkyo Taiko Drummers. As a consequence, the piece will be taught in two distinct blocks, in order to fit with this scheduling.

The Dojo is located just off the main road between Strathaven & Lesmahagow.

This course is designed to be suitable for both beginners & improvers, and will take the participants step by step from the stance, to the bachi drumstick grip through to learning a performance piece.  The piece for this season is Summer Storm (Susano-o). This is a newly written piece which was showcased at a show during the Edinburgh Fringe festival last year. It comes with a catchy groove and a new set of solos to learn, along with the movements and voice that make up this energetic piece. This course will enable participants to develop the mitsu-uchi rhythm, bachi sabaki movements whilst challenging something completely new & different.

If you have previous experience in taiko, you may be interested in our "Taiko Night" group, which meets at 08:00-10pm on Wednesday at the same venue.
