We are delighted to welcome Hiroshi Motofuji to the Mugen Taiko Dojo. He is our guest artist for the Mugenkyo Taiko Drummers autumn UK tour, and within the tour we will have two Sundays for workshops for taiko players from all over the UK.

The theme of the workshop is "Tokyo-style taiko: from traditional to modern". In the morning we will be concentrating on the Tokyo traditions: Bon-daiko played on a slant stand, which forms the roots of the "Sukeroku" style of playing, and also a short introduction to Edobayashi, the traditional festival ensemble of old Edo. In the afternoon we will move on to modern Tokyo style, of which Hiroshi Motofuji is a pioneer: new rhythms and how to play with other instruments. The two Sundays will be based on the same theme, but with different rhythmic content.

Hiroshi Motofuji is recognized as one of Japan's foremost taiko players, originally with the renowned Oedo Sukeroku, steeped in the Tokyo tradition. Whilst with the group he was a lead player, and also in charge of instructing all new apprentices. Since leaving Oedo Sukeroku he has been pushing the boundaries of the genre with various taiko fusion, and is currently with hard-rock + taiko band Yaiba.

This is an amazing opportunity to learn from one of Japan's great players & should not be missed!
