April 2006 – Katsuji Kondo
Guest Teacher Workshop
The well-respected taiko master, Katsuji Kondo will be visiting these shores in April, performing at Mugenkyo concerts in Glasgow and Edinburgh. In conjunction with these concerts, he will be running two guest teacher workshops at the dojo – an Open Workshop, and a Taiko Player’s Workshop, where we will be very honoured and excited to welcome taiko players from all over the UK, and from as far afield as Germany, coming here especially to learn from Katsuji Kondo. |
| Katsuji Kondo is the former lead player of the Kodo Drummers, who in February thrilled audiences throughout the UK during their world tour. Katsuji Kondo joined Ondekoza, the fore-runner of Kodo in 1976, training in taiko drums, tsugaru shamisen (three-stringed Japanese lute), folk dance and song. With Kodo, he toured throughout the world, performing over 1200 concerts in over 20 countries. In 1993 he left Kodo to pursue a career as a solo player and teacher, and is currently one of the most sought-after taiko masters. |

This year the Big Bang has expanded to become a mini-tour of central Scotland, with concerts held in Glasgow, Livingston, East Kilbride and Giffnock.
