Yatra

A forging together of three musical cultures in a special commission for the Edinburgh Mela Festival: Japanese Taiko with Indian song, dance & tabla, mixed with Scottish bagpipes, fiddle & gaelic harp. The ambitious collaboration also incorporated projected visuals on a huge backdrop onstage at one of the UK's biggest celebrations of Asian culture. "Yatra" means journey, and the process of creating the piece was a journey in itself, an ambitious cross-cultural fertilisation, inspiring & educational for all the musicians involved, giving each of us a window into the world of each others' musical habitat.
