Project Taiko |
Every winter the Mugen Taiko Dojo run a teaching and performance project called PROJECT TAIKO for 18 – 30 year olds.
The goal of the project is to introduce the art form of taiko drumming to a new group of young people, most of whom have never played taiko before, and also to start the process by which the few most talented players can apply to enter the Taiko Academy, our intensive training programme.
It is not a prerequisite to have taiko or drumming experience, although it could be an advantage to have some musical, dance or martial arts background or involvement in arts activity. |
 |
Following an audition process, successful applicants train weekly at the Dojo for a period of four months. At the end of the project, the participants perform the pieces they have learned as part of the Dojo Showcase Concerts held once a year in Central Scotland. |
 |
For the lucky applicants who pass the audition, participation in the project is free of charge. In the past, the programme has been supported by the Great Britain Sasakawa Foundation and the Nippon Taiko Federation. |
