THE DOJO Facilities |
The Mugen Taiko Dojo is a converted farmhouse surrounded by the gentle rolling hills of the South Lanarkshire countryside, within easy travelling distance of Glasgow and Edinburgh.
The teaching space itself is originally a 100 year old byre with two foot thick stone walls, and has been carefully converted into a purpose-built Taiko studio – the first of its kind in Britain. |
 |
 |
The space is 20 m x 6 m (70 ft x 30 ft), with an adjacent office, reception and eating area, and facilities for the disabled. The hall itself has natural wood flooring, under-floor heating, and mirrored walls – the ideal environment for learning this ancient discipline. |
The Dojo is well-equipped with a vast range of taiko drums and percussion most of which are imported especially from Japan. Carved from single tree trunks with thick cowhide skins, these are truly magnificent instruments.

The Dojo is located south of Glasgow, just off the M74, near the village of Strathaven. Travelling distance from Glasgow is 40 minutes, and from Edinburgh is 70 minutes. |
