Taiko drumming - "Wadaiko" - is an energetic, physical and highly choreographed art form. Originally from Japan, with roots going back hundreds of years and encompassing a variety of styles, rhythms and movement, this traditional folk art is now developing and spreading as a modern European art form.

Now is the chance for people here in Scotland to experience a full course of this exciting discipline which is energetic & fun & learnt alongside other taiko enthusiasts!

Course dates are:

April 4, 11, 25 *Please note no class on 18th

May 2, 9, 23, 30 *Please note no class on 16th

June 6, 13, 20

There are two course options, both are suitable for complete beginners. The course will take the participants step by step from the stance, to the bachi drumstick grip through to learning a performance piece.

Mondays 6:30 - 8:00 pm - "Kitsune Daiko"

This is a performance piece based on the uplifting and playful "shichisan" rhythm, named after the "kitsune" fox, popular in Japanese traditional folklore.

Mondays 8:15 - 9:45 pm - "Inferno"

This is a dramatic performance piece based on the driving "gobu-gobu" rhythm, with two interlocking parts. This course is suitable both for beginners and for those with some experience in taiko.
